Bonnie Mara Animal Hospital is a newly completed veterinary hospital tenant improvement in Santa Barbara, California, designed to provide compassionate, low-stress veterinary care in a beautiful, modern environment. DPT Construction served as the general contractor, delivering a complete interior tenant improvement along with a new fire sprinkler system while providing value engineering to help maximize the client's investment. Working closely with the owner, our team focused on creating a high-end veterinary facility that reflects the expectations of pet owners throughout Santa Barbara, Montecito, and the surrounding Central Coast communities. The thoughtfully designed floor plan features a large centralized treatment area that integrates dental services, surgery preparation, technician workstations, and medical charting to improve communication and workflow. Separate dog and cat exam rooms help create a calmer experience for patients while supporting calm approach to veterinary medicine. Specialized building systems include soundproofed exam and kennel rooms, as well as a waste gas evacuation system with a scavenger unit to support advanced surgical and dental procedures. Throughout construction, DPT Construction successfully navigated significant permitting delays with the City of Santa Barbara without compromising the project schedule. By working proactively with city officials, our team received authorization to continue construction and complete inspections while permit approvals were still in process, preventing months of unnecessary downtime. Although city approvals extended nearly two additional months beyond expectations, the project remained aligned with the original 22-week construction schedule through careful planning, coordination, and communication.
